Chinese Ink Wash Monoprints

The process of ink wash monotypes is one of the most exciting art forms I have experienced. At first I thought all I was going to be able to do was pour ink on a sheet of glass, lay a piece of paper on it, press down with my hand or a roller and lift the paper up hoping for an image. And for the first twenty or so that’s what I did. But as I spread out the work on a table waiting for them to dry I noticed that they needed more depth. So I took a few and redid the process. What I got was the start of some interesting effects. But I still needed more. By changing the density of the ink I was also able to create darker lines which I was able to keep as thin strands by using an eyedropper to flow the ink on the glass. I was also able to use q-tips to spread the ink.  I also added some acrylic paint to the ink and experimented with that on some of the pieces.

These works are approximately 11 x 14 inches, unframed on deckle cream resume paper

They sell for $50.00 each.
